Eyebrow Pre Procedure
NO caffeine, alcohol, aspirin (unless prescribed by a doctor), ibuprofen, tanning, or sunburns on the forehead within 24 hours prior to the procedure.
Do Not wax or tint your brows within one week before your procedure.
NO Botox treatments within 2 weeks prior to the procedure.
Discontinue brow growth enhancement serums at least 2 weeks before the procedure. NO facial peels, retinol products, or any similar treatments around the eyebrows for 30 days before the procedure.

Lip Pre Procedure
Cold sore prevention: If you have ever had a fever blister at any point in your life, there is a 99.9% chance of an outbreak after lip tattooing. We cannot proceed unless you have a prescription from your doctor (e.g., Zovirax, Acyclovir, Valtrex, etc.). Begin taking the prescription 48 hours before your procedure and continue for at least one week or until all peeling has subsided. NO tanning, or sunburns on the lips or surrounding areas within 24 hours prior to the procedure.
Exfoliation: Exfoliate lips no more than 1 week before and no less than 3 days before your procedure. Exfoliating too close to the procedure can increase pain and swelling.
Moisturize: Keep lips well-hydrated before your appointment — chapped lips will not hold color effectively.
Avoid lip plumpers 48 hours before the procedure.
No fillers within 1 month before your procedure.

EYEBROW POST PROCEDURE INSTRUCTIONS

For the first 72 hours following your procedure, blot the treated area every one to two hours with a clean, dry Kleenex. If you are a slower healer, continue blotting for one extra day. You will be blotting clear plasma, not blood, and it may not be visible on the tissue — blot whether you see anything or not. This step is essential to prevent excess plasma from forming a hard scab, which can lead to loss of pigment. Once daily, use the provided soap to gently cleanse your brows and then pat them dry, taking care not to scrub or rub the area.

Beginning on the third day (or the fourth if you are a slow healer), apply a very thin, rice-sized amount of the provided ointment once or twice daily until all scabs are gone — typically seven to ten days. Use ointment as needed to relieve dryness or itching. If the itching persists, you may take Benadryl, particularly at night, to avoid scratching in your sleep.

Keep the area clean and free of sweat until healing is complete, as the salt in sweat can pull out pigment. If you sweat or the area becomes dirty, gently splash-rinse with water and blot dry immediately — this is the only acceptable time to get the brows wet. If necessary, use antibacterial soap and lightly cleanse with your hands without rubbing or scrubbing. During the healing period, choose weight training over aerobic exercise and avoid steam rooms.

Avoid touching the treated area with unclean hands or stretching the skin around your brows. If your work environment exposes you to dirt, dust, or other pollutants, cleanse the area as directed above to maintain proper healing.

Do not apply makeup, cleansing creams, hyaluronic acid, coconut oil, avocado oil, or any chemical products to the treated area until it is fully healed, as these substances can cause pigment removal or discoloration.

Scabbing typically begins around the third or fourth day. Ideally, it will resemble fine dandruff-like flakes rather than thick scabs. This is a normal part of the healing process. At this stage, the treated area may appear significantly darker than it did on the day of the procedure; this is also normal. The color will gradually lighten as the scabs naturally exfoliate.

Do not pick, scratch, or peel the scabs at any point during the healing process, as this can lift the pigment and result in uneven color or the need for additional touch-up sessions. If the scabs detach prematurely, they are likely to pull pigment with them. For optimal color retention, allow all scabs to shed naturally over the course of approximately 7–10 days. Once the scabs have completely fallen off and the color has softened, you may resume your normal facial cleansing routine.

Avoid exposing the treated area to direct sunlight at all times during the healing process, as UV rays can cause premature fading and uneven color retention. Once healing is complete, apply sunscreen daily to protect the pigment and help prevent fading or the development of sunspots.

Please note that the color will initially appear approximately 20% darker and more sharply defined for 7 to 10 days following the procedure. As you heal, the color will soften and look more natural, this is totally normal. The pigment may take up to four weeks to fully stabilize, and in some cases, the color may temporarily fade and then return during the healing process. After healing, exercise caution when applying products to the treated area, especially those containing anti-aging or wrinkle-reducing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, glycolic acid, retinol, and skin-lightening agents, as these may accelerate pigment fading.

DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

Due to extremely high demand, we are an appointment only studio. We may have an artist available for walk-ins on some days but this is never a guarantee, as artist availability changes from week to week. If you’d like to inquire about a walk-in, the best thing to do is give us a call at 314-802-8957 to speak to our manager.

Our artists are typically booked for a long period of time. Depending on which artist you would like to work with, you could be waiting anywhere from several days to one year to begin your tattoo project. It’s always best to speak with our front desk personnel first to get a feeling for whether your project fits a particular tattooer’s style and aesthetic. Depending on artist availability and the nature of your project, we will assist you in moving forward with a consultation appointment or putting you on your chosen artist’s waiting list.

HOW DO I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?

The most efficient way to set up an appointment is to book your consultation directly through our website.

If an artist you were wanting to book with is unavailable on the calendar it means that their books are currently closed and they are not accepting new clients at this time.

If you’re interested in a tattoo, but don’t know who you want to do it, we suggest calling in at 314-802-8957 and speaking with our front desk staff about your ideas. They will be able to point you in the direction of the best artist for your tattoo based on style and availability and assist in moving forward from there.

Question 6

HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE TO GET TATTOOED?

You must be 18. No exceptions! Please come prepared with a government issued ID. While the state of Missouri does allow tattoo procedures on minors with parental consent, it is our shop policy that we do not tattoo anyone under the age of 18.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

We accept cash, PayPal, and all major credit cards.

We do charge a processing fee on all card payments, so we recommend you pay for your tattoo in cash if possible.

We do not take checks.

Question 8

ARE DEPOSITS REFUNDABLE?

No. All deposits are non-refundable.

Deposits act as a credit towards the price of your tattoo OR towards the final session if your project requires more than one session. If you absolutely need to reschedule your appointment, we require 48 hours notice from the start of your appointment time in order for you to be able to move your deposit to the reschedule date. This can only be done ONCE. If last minute notice is given less than 48 hours before your appointment, your deposit is forfeited and a new deposit will be required to be able to reschedule your appointment. Your previous deposit will be lost.

We ask for deposits on tattoo appointments because your tattoo requires hours of preparation and planning before your appointment even starts. Deposits separate those who are dedicated and committed to their tattoo project and respectful of their artists time, and those who are not.

ARE TATTOOS SAFE?

EVERYTHING IS DISPOSABLE!

We can’t speak for every tattoo studio, but here at Tattoo the Lou Studio, your health and safety is our highest priority. In addition to using brand new needles for every appointment, we also adhere to strict cleaning and cross-contamination avoidance procedures.

You can expect to see all disposable equipment barriers on everything that must be touched during the tattoo process. We work closely with the St Louis City Department of Health to ensure that our methods comply with the most current guidelines.

The ability to guarantee the safety of your and your family, as well as ours, is of the utmost priority to us!

HOW DO YOU DETERMINE PRICING?

Pricing varies based on which artist you book with, as well as the size and level of detail in the design. Some artists charge by the hour and others give a flat rate based on the clients ideas.

We can not price quote a tattoo over the phone or prior to a comprehensive consultation with the artist who will be doing the tattoo.

There are many steps to a quality custom tattoo. Trust us, it’s worth it.

DO YOU SELL ALL THE AFTERCARE PRODUCTS I’LL NEED?

We have small samples of our preferred aftercare product, Redemption Tattoo Ointment, available for purchase for $5.00.

This is usually a sufficient amount to help with the healing process, but you can purchase more if needed anytime during shop hours or at your next appointment.

Ask your artist about additional product recommendations or aftercare instructions!

ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED IN THE SHOP?

We understand that sometimes finding a babysitter is difficult, however we do not allow clients to have their children in the studio while getting tattooed.

No one under the age of 18 is permitted in the studio. Although we love kids, it’s important for our clients and their artists to have one on one time without distractions. It’s crucial for the artist to concentrate on creating the best possible tattoo for you.

Your appointment is your time to relax and focus on getting a beautiful piece of art.

DO YOU DO PIERCINGS OR SELL JEWELRY?

No, we do not do piercings or have any jewelry for sale. Our focus is to create beautiful custom tattoos for you and we chose not to do piercings so we can focus on that.

WHERE CAN I PARK?

Parking in the grove can be difficult and is mostly metered street parking, but we are able to offer complimentary parking for our clients. Our parking lot is in the rear of the building. You are welcome to any of the open spaces.

COVID 19 SAFETY

Please note that for the time being we are appointment only, with face mask required to enter the shop and for the duration of appointment. We are asking clients to come alone to their appointments, as we can currently only accommodate one client per artist while adhering to social distancing guidelines. We’ll also be adhering to strict and extensive sanitation protocols at the beginning of each day as well as between appointments.

When you arrive at your appointment you will be asked to grab a seat in the front of the shop in our waiting area, fill out paperwork and then asked to wash your hands prior to meeting with your artist. Please email us to discuss booking appointments and consultations, or if you have questions about safety. We’d be happy to help, and want our clients to continue to feel comfortable getting tattooed at our studio.

If you have appointments coming up please be mindful of any large gatherings or events that would create a risk for our artist and their families. If you are exposed to someone who is sick please contact the studio directly at 314-802-8957 to notify our manager to ensure your artist is notified and rescheduling can begin.

If you start to develop symptoms the day before or wake up the day of your appointment with any of the following:

Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
